Detective Sergeant Martin Draker is a seasoned officer who clears cases - and not always through conventional methods.

A reliable informant, Abdul Bashir, tells Draker that a corrupt police official is passing sensitive intelligence to criminal Dan Manning, a vicious Manchester armed robber and drug dealer, who is also importing heroin from India.

Abdul Bashir then goes missing.

Field analyst Cath Moore, a former journalist who switched careers to join police intelligence, is investigating an upsurge in deaths caused by a new drug – Sky White.

Manning commits an armed robbery and leaves a body in the burnt-out getaway car. Draker fears it is the missing informant, Bashir. A note threatens more deaths unless the police cease their investigation.

Moore launches a TV appeal warning of the dangers of Sky White. Manning is incensed; she could kill the new drug’s market before the supplier makes a return on his investment.

Draker and Moore pursue Manning, who in turn is hunting Moore to silence her.

An audacious plan to capture Manning fails, only for Draker and Moore to run into Manning's own trap.

Tommy Broadbent, one of Liverpool's most renowned criminals, stumbles across a vagrant, Thomas Dorchester - who is the villain's exact doppelgänger. Dorchester is soon hired to front Broadbent's club, to fool the police that he has gone legit, while Broadbent carries on his activities in the shadows.

Dorchester is shot - but survives. The police are called in to investigate.

Detective Sergeant Martin Draker, an officer who clears cases - but not always through conventional means - with his superior DCI Colin Carstairs, an experienced detective adept at seeing the bigger picture, are brought in to run a parallel investigation. Broadbent may be considered a reformed criminal, but he is also one of Merseyside Police's most valuable informants.

Dorchester wakes up in hospital and realises he needs help. He plans to out himself as an impostor to Draker and his partner Cath Moore, an ex-journalist who swapped careers to become a field intelligence analyst. A further attempt on his life succeeds before he can reveal the truth - and the attack nearly takes out Draker and Moore.

Learning from his exploitation of Dorchester, Broadbent intends to infiltrate the police with false informants and sell the intelligence to the highest bidders.

Draker, Carstairs and Moore need to uncover Broadbent's plans and prevent them.

There will be blood.

A bomb is planted by a Russian ex-Spetsnaz, Igor Jakinsky, who is arrested, but refuses to reveal the location. The device will explode in an hour in Preston.

Detective Sergeant Draker - an unconventional but effective officer - is called in to deal with the case, whilst key personnel travel up from London.

Jakinsky entered the UK as a fruit picker. Assessed by MI5 previously, he was photographed in a compromising position with another picker, Olga Solokov.

The photographs are used as leverage against the Russian and he reveals the location of the device. But the clock is ticking.

Sokolov is apprehended, as a further call warns of a second bomb. Draker, a skilled interrogator, plays the conspirators off against each other, and uncovers a plot involving the Russian intelligence service and ISIS.

Things are not what they seem as the UK security services - and NATO - could now be compromised.
